In September 2015 I became Head of Geography in a new and growing school.  It is a huge challenge, but also a privilege, to be building and leading a brand new department.

It is a chance to virtually start from scratch.  It is almost as if I am stood at the bottom of a mountain with a huge rucksack on my back, ready to start a long trek.  I am peering upwards towards the summit, but the department pinnacle is shrouded in clouds.  I have a good idea of what it looks like, yet I cannot quite see it or get there yet.

In the meantime, the heavy rucksack weighing down on my shoulders is carefully packed full of ideas, resources, experiences and thoughts about teaching, learning and secondary school Geography.  These will be shared gradually through this website and blog, where I will be reflecting on the departmental journey I have just started.

Time to empty the rucksack and see what is inside.
